Modified Listen and Match Technique for Elementary School

We choose listen and match technique, and modify it. The theme is about animal. In this technique, the activity is based on:

  1. Distinguishing sounds (make a difference between animal sounds, the students should match what they hear with the picturre in the worksheet).
  2. Applying the listening skill (the students shoud choose whether the sound is near or far).
  3. Using what the student’s heard (the student will act like what they hear, another student will guess the word and whisper it to next student, the last student in the group will say the word)
Activity’s steps :

  • The teacher divide the students into a small group. Every group consist of 4 students.
  • The teacher give a clear instruction about the activity, and give worksheet to every group.
  • The first student from every group should go in front of the class. The teacher will give an animal sound from the speaker.
  • The first student should listen carefully. Then, they should match the sound with the picture in the worksheet by give checklist sign to the picture.
  • The teacher give the sound of the same animal. The student should choose whether the sound is near or far. They should give checklist sign in the box of near or far.
  • The first students will act like an animal which they choose before. The second student in every group should guess the animal.
  • After guessing the animal, the second student should whisper the name of animal to the third student. Afterward, the third student should whisper again to the fourth student.
  • If the fourth student already know the animal’s name, he/she should raise the flag.
  • The teacher should stop another group if there is one group which finish in the first place.
  • The teacher and the students discuss about the animal and give an award to the winner group.
  • Then, the student in every group should change their position. The first student become the fourth student, the second student become the first student, etc. We can start again to the next sound.
