Listen and Do as a Technique in Teaching Listening for Elementary School Students

In
listen and do, there are some type of activity such as moving about, mime
stories, listen and draw, listen and colour. We will explain about moving
about. In moving about, the teacher will give an instruction, then the students
should move their body and doing something. The teacher should give instruction
based on the theme. By using this type, the teacher can check classroom
vocabulary, and movement words. We can see the student who understand the
instruction, and the one who do not understand.
We can use this technique indoor or outdoor. The teacher can adjust it with class condition. For example, in outdoor we can make close circle, and indoor (if the class is limited) the students can stand up in beside their chair. We also can modify this technique based on our creativity.

Steps :
- The teacher should prepare the instruction based on the theme
- To warming up the students, the teacher give an instruction to every row, then to some students individualy. For example “shake your body!”, “raise your right hand!”, “open your mouth!”, “chin up!”, “shake your left leg!”, etc
- The students and the teacher make a close circle.T
- he teacher explain a clear instruction to the students. “I will give some instructions, and you should listen it carefully. If I say Simi says, you should do the instruction, but if I say the instruction wihout using Simi says, you do not have to do it”.
- The teacher start to give an instruction. The student listen carefully and do the instruction.
- Then the teacher can check the students who do the instructions correctly.
